How To Manage a 5 Day Working Week

In this post, I will share my top 5 tips on How to Manage a 5 Day Working Week.

We have all been there. You wake up on Monday morning wondering where the weekend has gone, and now you have to get through a 5 day working week…help!

There is nothing worse than wishing your weekly work-life away, and living solely for the weekends.

I have come up with my Top 5 Tips on How To Manage a 5 Day Working Week, so that you can start to enjoy Monday – Fridays a bit more!

1. Prepare The Night Before

How does that saying go? Ah, yes. Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail. I couldn’t agree more!

Something I ALWAYS make sure I do is prepare everything the night before. This can be from choosing what you are going to wear, to preparing your lunch, and also making sure your bag is fully packed and ready to go.

This takes away so much of the stress in the morning, and means you are not rushing around getting everything ready and figuring out what to wear.

It also means you get a longer lie in! Win Win!

2. Make a “To Do” List

Something I swear by, which makes my life easier is lists!

In my job, I have so many things going on, and so much to do in a day or week that it can be very stressful. Making a To Do list makes managing a 5 day working week so much more manageable.

There are so many ways you can do this. Write it down in a note pad, use a template on Word, or purchase a downloadable template from the likes of Etsy! The possibilities are endless, and you can choose how to suit it to you.

I find lists so helpful, and gets so much out of your head and down onto something. It is also so satisfying completing a task and ticking something off the list. Lists massively help break down your day or week, and help you plan your time better.

3. Find a Work/Home Life Balance

Something that is VERY important, is finding a good balance between work life, and home life by making sure you separate the two things.

Now, this may not always be easy for a lot of us, especially if you work from home at times, but creating boundaries between the two is crucial.

If you work from home, try not to work in a space you also use to relax, as this can blur the lines between work and you time, and you start to associate certain places with work. Also, pack away equipment for the evening, or weekend so that you don’t get a constant reminder of work!

Finish work at the time you are supposed to finish. Easier said than done, as we might just want to serve that last customer, or send that last email, but having a set time you finish creates more separation between work time, and your personal time. If you are working overtime and getting paid for it, then fair enough. Just don’t let work eat into your personal time!

Switch off. Again, easier said than done, and I am the worst culprit for this at times! However, leaving work at work is something I have been pushing myself to do. Do what you during work time, and then shut that laptop down. You have done all you can for that day. You are finished, go enjoy yourself!

4. Get an Early Night

What makes us grumpy? Being tired. Dragging yourself out of bed, feeling like you only just went to sleep.

Getting an early night really, really helps. It makes sure you get your full amount of sleeping hours in, and helps you get up earlier in the morning, without it being so painful!

When you are well rested, you are more alert and you are more likely to work more efficiently, and be in a happier mood.

And you may not need to rely on caffeine as much!

5. Make Weekly Plans

Living for the weekend is not a healthy way to live, as your life is passing you by!

Making plans within the week, gives you something to look forward to, instead of you counting down the days until you can do it on the weekend.

Yes, you also need rest, but planning something nice in the week such as a meal in/out, a nice drive or walk, gives you something to look forward to in your own time, outside of work, and helps you enjoy the middle of the week a little bit more.

Not everything has to happen on the weekend! Again, it’s all about finding that balance, and helping you switch off.

In summary, I believe incorporating the above tips, can really help you manage your 5 day working week. Even if you slowly start implementing some of them, I hope you start to see the different on how you feel, and your outlook to your working week.
